TAD STATEMENT ON DISCOVERY OF CATTLE TB AT 2 CASTRO COUNTY DAIRIES
The Texas Association of Dairymen (TAD) issued the following statement today in response to the announcement by the Texas Animal Health Commission that it has confirmed cattle tuberculosis (TB) in two Castro County dairies.
TAHC’s news release can be found at: http://www.tahc.texas.gov/news/pr/2015/2015-01-13_PanhandleTB.pdf
The following can be attributed to Darren Turley, executive director of TAD:
“The Texas Association of Dairymen is very concerned about the emergence of TB at two Texas dairies and its impact on the entire statewide dairy industry. Bovine tuberculosis is the most serious disease risk faced by the dairy industry because it can impact human health, animal health and marketability.
“During the past year, TAD worked closely with the Texas Animal Health Commission on the adoption of new rules improve cattle traceability in case of a TB outbreak. Our state’s dairy producers have worked hard to implement testing and other safeguards, and we certainly do not want to risk the state losing its TB status.
“We are in close contact with TAHC to stay on top of the situation and to see what we can do to assist.”
